Wednesday.

It has been a tough week and we have had to come to terms with the loss of the Pog (something I am finding very hard to do...) but there have been a few moments that have been lighter.

The Bear (AKA Fred the cat) has been really pally with me (which is unheard of) and has been sitting on the computer table to keep me company. Here's Fred:

Click the Pic!

Fred is soft as anything, loves to fight cats outside, has fur so thick that it is almost like a bear's and he is always coming home with war wounds. For him to be behaving the way he is, makes me believe that he is missing the Pog too.

Along the same lines... my sister has a cat too. It has recently given birth to six kittens and one of them didn't have a home. Seeing as my daughter has just lost her kitten, guess what? It isn't without a home now. In a week and a half, we are going to pick it up. It is female and looks like this:

Click the Pix!

My daughter is looking forward to her arrival and has named her Charmmy (after a Hello Kitty character). At least our sadness has led to an unwanted kitten getting a home.

Maybe having a little fur-ball running about will go part way towards filling the void that the awesome Pog has left behind. I doubt it... Charmmy has massive paws to fill... but it is a start.

See you from the dark!

Gutted.

On Friday, after our little Pog had been missing over night, we had the tragic news that he was likely to be the cat that was found dead on the side of the road and taken away. The body was found where he used to play and was described as a small black and white cat. I am making enquiries to try and locate the body so that I can confirm that it is Pog (he is chipped and had a collar... I am a little annoyed that no one has contacted us but there could be good reasons for that) but that can't happen until Monday because it was a works contractor who apparently moved him.

The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long.

On to other things (before I blub), I have been busy assembling Macross to take my mind off things and as usual, I can't make a kit without changing it so I am in the process of converting the model to have a cockpit, rather than a head. The kit in question is an Armoured Valkyrie that was a gift from my very generous friend, DWartist:

Click the Pic!

The Grymn in the pic is to give an idea of size (14cm to the top of the back-pack). I am planning on leaving this as a stand-alone project but I do have another couple of Macross kits that may join it in the chosen colour scheme... which will not be the usual thing from me (even though there are obviously grey bits on display... this will change).

I had planned to show off some completed miniatures but I never finished them due to the sad news.

See you from the quiet place!

###EDIT###

It has now been confirmed that it was Pog who was knocked down. It was instant and he has been properly buried.

See you from the sad place!

Friday's production line.

After the clean-up and groundwork for the Clanker unit was done... and the legs pinned/glued to the bodies... and the legs/body pinned to the bases... the work has started on the heads now. This is the bit where I fill in the area that would normally have a little human head in it with green stuff and put a lid on it. Progress is good and I just have to fill in the slot on the top of the lid and fill the gaps around the sides of the head-turret:

Click the Pic!

I have also put all the necessary blobs on the bases to add a little texture when the sand is glued on the tops. Once the heads are filled, it is simply a case of gluing the arms in place because I have already drilled all the necessary holes and fitted all the necessary pins so it really will be a simple job to finish these off.

In other news, my daughter and I went over to the vets today to drop off some of The Pog's paperwork and then went for a nice cuppa in a tea-shop over the road. I think it is a very good way to start the day. Speaking of The Pog, he is full of catten-wiggles today and has been driving everyone mad so he is back to his old self after his little op yesterday. He has been out (all though not far... he shouldn't really have gone out yet but there are only so many times you can fish him off the curtains before you have to relent!) and has caught up on his food and is now one chilled out little Pog:

Click the Pic!

I'm not sure who is happier to see him home safely... me or The Pog!

See you from the cab of a gutter cleaning lorry!

Thursday, 3 January 2013

Oh the worry...

The Pog is at the vets. He is being neutered today and while he's at it he's getting a chip put in and his nails clipped if they need it.

I am obviously supremely calm about it all... not. He's only a little Pog :( .

Good luck Pog and I hope that:

  • You get back to fitness very soon
  • You are still the same temperament (apart from trying to mount the other cats)
  • You forgive me for ruining your masculinity

To take my mind off things I have started to assemble Clankers and have so far put the legs on four bodies and stuck them securely to their base with pins and putty. This bit is the most awkward, boring and time consuming bit so I will be glad when it is all over; then I can start converting the heads and adding the arms/packs. As I have mentioned before, the unit consists of eight standard Clankers, a leader version and a comms robot. The Standard ones are all the same (except I have converted two to have special weapons already) but the leader and comms robot are different. The difficult ones are the standard ones because they have quite fragile leg joints until they are firmly secured to their base but I only have four more to get to that stage before I move on to the not so fragile ones.

In other news, the pictures of powered armour Grymn will be appearing HERE later (it's a Facebook link, so don't click if you don't do Facebook). According to Sally, there is quite a variety of bits and bobs so it will be worth taking a peek at.

##EDIT## Here are some examples of what has been put up on the facebook page:

I'll give a Pog update later.

##EDIT## The Pog is fine and is going to be collected imminently.

See you from the desk of the Clanker production manager!

The last Sunday post of 2012.

Well, it is Sunday and I have been out and about to get some fresh air and I feel a bit better for it so I thought I'd write an early post while I am of a mind for it.

First of all, I would like to show Big Frank in all of his finery:

Click the Pic!

As you will notice, his base isn't finished but he will get that sorted once the rest of the berserks are finished... after all, he will be part of their unit. I have kept his paint fairly simple and have the option of further highlights at a later date if I fancy it. As part of the Dark Forgefather project I have been continuing to paint the remaining Berserks and also assembled another unit of ten troops. These troops are based on the fantasy riflemen and will be a unit of scouts. I have primed them but there is nothing worth photographing at the moment... so I haven't. I have also got this to show off:

Click the Pic!

I have four pairs of these and I think they are perfect for a side project for the Dark Forgefathers. You never know, next week may provide some answers... as well as seeing the assembly of the final Clanker unit.

Finally, a picture of peace:

Click the Pic!

The Pog... fast asleep and twitching away to himself.

See you from the edge of space!

Friday, 21 December 2012

I'm still here...AGAIN.

I guess the 11.13AM and 09:00PM deadlines for oblivion have now passed and I am still kicking so here are a few bits and bobs. First up, I have got a bit further on my UDoD:

Clikc the Pic!

Mystic Mike and Bernard Foxbain are now finished. Just Spiky Pete and a little bit of tinkering to go now. I have to be strict on myself now because this turned up today and although I took time out to assemble it, I have to get other things finished before I take it passed the primer stage:

Click the Pic!

I have nick-named him Big Frank and he will be joining the berserker squad but I will finish the UDoD and last three berserks before he sees much paint.

The Pog is growing fast. He has already got to the stroppy teenager stage:

Click the Pic!

Henry is really starting to look like a cat now... he is eating us out of house and home and has had a massive growth spurt... but he is still my little Pog :).

See you from the deck-chair on the golden sands of Alpha Centauri!

Sunday, 2 December 2012

It's all starting to get crazy!

It is getting to that time of year where I can't go shopping for fear of going postal on all the people who insist on walking at you because they have their Christmas blinkers on. That means that I have to occupy my time in other ways so this weekend has been one of painting and cleaning up stuff.

First on the agenda were my Visitors and I managed to finish off the Mekon's unit:

Click the Pic!

Once they were finished, I started cleaning up the next vehicle for my Tunnel Fighter army; the ambulance but didn't get very far so I decided to look for something else to do and didn't have to look far because these were on my painting table... so I painted them:

Click the Pic!

Not the best pictures... but these are the first two of the five Crossover Miniatures I got as part of a Kickstarter I joined. I am not sure... but there may be more to follow.

In other news... Henry the kitten decided to go walkabouts this week and gave us all a case of nerves... but he came back and it was only when I looked him straight in the eye, I realised where the problem was:

Click the Pic!

Can you see the problem? No? You mean you haven't noticed? Yes... he is a Hitler cat! Oh the shame!

Last week, as you know, I dyed my daughter's hair. Well it didn't go down too well at school so this week, she looks like this:

Click the Pic!

Some teachers should lighten up a bit... but I guess there are standards and there are no other people at the school who dye their hair (he said sarcastically).

Well... what is next? I guess this:

Click the Pic!

It is single shot and Henry loves chasing the darts. It also makes a handy distraction for him when he is doing things he shouldn't be... as long as I don't shoot at him of course! Even if I did, it is perfectly harmless so the odd one doesn't upset him.

Christmas is coming. Only a few weeks left. I have an extra long holiday this year so I should have plenty of time to get all of my chores done and crack on with a few projects. I plan on getting my travelling done before the event so that I can have time to chill out and get rid of all the tiredness that has built up over the last few months.

I guess that is about it for today. What will be next, who knows?

See you from the top of the Blackpool Tower!

Only a month until... the DoD is over

Well, it's that time of the week again and I am sitting in front of my shiny new PC typing another blog post. I have had an interesting week of leaving parties, parent's evenings and wedding anniversary meals and have managed to land this weekend.

...so what have we got this week then? Well, I waved goodbye to a bunch of work colleagues who have either left the RAF or are being posted to pastures new. The speeches were good, the drink flowed and the company was excellent.

I had to go to school for a parent's evening which consisted of a bunch of different teachers saying how they thought things were... and then telling me that everything was cool except for all of the resits that were going to be needed. My daughter is doing really well but they think she can do better so they would like her to resit certain parts of the courses she is doing. Teachers eh?

Friday was my 21st wedding anniversary. I have now been married for longer than I haven't! The amazing thing is that me and my better half are still happily in love with each other. Life is full of little miracles. Here's to the next 21 years.

In other family news... I have been hairdressing again:

Click the Pic!

I managed to convince my daughter to try orange instead of bleached blonde... so I spent an hour getting things to the stage you can see. She was happy with it but no doubt the school won't be so chuffed... I have seen ginger hair that vivid so bring on the contender!

Little kitten Henry is growing a lot:

Click the Pic!

Henry isn't a Kitten any more and isn't a cat yet... he is officially a 'catten'. He is also the coolest catten around.

So... I read something and it was a question:

"Has anyone converted a Hellbrute into a Daemon Prince?"

... so I now have a Hellbrute on the way from E-Bay (I don't know why but I fancy giving the conversion a try).

Finally, I have an update in the Grymn Tunnel Fighter project; namely the specialist squad being complete:

Click the Pic!

That means that I have two vehicles and three units of Clankers (30 models in all) to finish in order to complete the army. I must admit that converting and painting the Grymn was good fun... it has been a while and I have missed it.

Well, the next few weeks will be mental so I have no idea what sort of updates will be forthcoming but there will be updates of some kind.

Finally, I have to mention the 2012 Unofficial Diorama of Doom. Two months have passed and there is just a month to go. For more information, have a look here:

Have a good week, watch out for the flooding, stay safe and I will see you next week.

See you from the runaway train!

Sunday again

Well after an interesting week I have finally reached the end... it is Sunday, after all. This week saw the completion of the cyclist which was a massive weight off my shoulders and the accompanying leaving party was a good night too. With that all over and done with, I have been free to focus my attention on the other commission... and I have made a great deal of progress towards finishing the 'space cowboy' but I am unable to show pix of it just yet (until I have posted it and been given permission to show it off). As you may have realised, it has been the time-sink for my hobby time BUT putty needs to dry so I have also been working on  my Visitor walkers:

Click the Pic!

The walker on the left is called 'Blade' and is finished apart from the base. The walker on the right has been washed and has had his legs re-coated but still has a fair way to go. I think I will finish painting both of them before basing them at the same time. It is nice to be able to think that the first wave of Visitors is nearly finished.

In other news, I have bought a couple of miniatures from Hasslefree Miniatures and am waiting for a bid on E-Bay to do its work... I doubt if I will win but I live in hope.

Well... the only thing left to share is a gratuitous kitten pic:

Click the Pic!

Henry likes to sleep on his back and didn't take kindly to the camera flash.

See you from the car-park at the back of the last chance motel!

Sunday... again.

Before I start today's post, I'd like to welcome Stephen to Inso's World. I hope you enjoy your stay and take away something from your visit. Please feel free to comment and share the wealth.

So what has happened this week? Well... I have had another sleepless week so things have been pretty slow again. That said, I have been able to knock together a few body guards for Octu... and here they are:

Click the Pic!

You can probably see that the pix look more naturally coloured than usual. Well, I used daylight instead of my lamp and it has made a huge amount of difference so while I was taking pix, I took one of the entire first wave:

Click the Pic!

You can see that everything is painted except for the four walkers. Now I had hoped to have one finished by now but I haven't. The one at the back on the left has been fully base-coated, washed and is now in the process of getting the highlights sorted. The one next to it has had the first coat of blue added but nothing more and the other two are just primed. My primary painting task is getting the walkers finished and then going back to wash the little guys' hands with ink to define the fingers more.

So... sculpting has been very difficult. I have managed to ad two bits of putty to the space cowboy and a few bobs on the helmet of the cyclist but that is all. It really is depressing... I need to get those two sculpts finished but every time I try to work on them... I just can't face it. Sometimes, my muse is a bitch.

In other news, I have sent pix of the last sculpt I finished (the Sleiti Warrioress) off to be judged for the sculpting competition (fingers crossed). I have also assembled an Eldar Phoenix Lord and have started dabbing paint on it... more news on that in later posts (if it comes to anything).

I was trawling the forums the other day when I stumbled across some information about an E-Bay voucher. Ten minutes later, I had bought a pack of aliens from Reaper Miniatures for less than £2-00 (should have been £6-99) so I was pretty chuffed about that. They are a bit different to the Visitors sculpts but I plan to use them as servants for the Supreme Commander (Mekon) so that was a good bit of luck.

I think it is about time for a gratuitous Kitten picture... here's sleepy Henry:

Click the Pic!

There is a lot of joy to be had when you see your little kitten sleeping... it means he isn't climbing the back of your legs or running riot over the furniture.

See you from the bus lane!

BLAM! It's Sunday's post.

Before I start, I'd like to welcome the latest follower of Inso's World; Alcidas. Welcome Alcidas and I hope you find a few things of interest as you stroll around the gardens. Feel free to leave comments and add suggestions.

Fancy a bit of a challenge? Well if you do and you don't need a prize to compete (apart from the kudos of winning!), the Forum of Doom has just kicked off this year's Unofficial Diorama of Doom. For more information, rules and where to start things off, click HERE.

Phew... what a week. I have had to chill out because the old Insomnia beat me this week so it was a day off work and some sleep meds to get me back on track. Fortunately, it only kept me down for a day and I was able to transform my freebie Grey Commander from Tengu Games into Mekon; Supreme Overlord of the Visitors:

Click the Pic!

While I was repositioning his head and arm, I managed to snap them off so I had to reattach them but I think he looks brilliant as the Supreme Commander... and I couldn't help calling him Mekon.

This week, I have received all of my expected E-Bay purchases and I can now rest on my laurels that I don't need to strip any figures for the time being. I have a couple of bids in for a bit of flavour but I am only expecting to win one of them... hopefully. The other one was a 'let's put a stupid little bid in to be cheeky' sort of bid... You never know.

One thing that I was really happy to receive was my charity miniature; Super J. He is a cracking little miniature but in his silver state, he doesn't photograph very well so if you want to see what he looks like, here he is by another painter:

(Both are linked from Lead Adventure Forums)

If you are interested in getting hold of one, here is a link to the thread on the Lead Adventure Forum: LINK.

Finally, our newest family member (Henry) has had his second set of jabs and a week for them to work before this happened:

Click the Pic!

Once he was out and had dashed back into the house a few times, he got the hang of being outside and started to investigate... all supervised of course. He certainly seemed to enjoy the occasion... even if he was apprehensive.

Well... that is about it for this post. I am continuing to sculpt the cyclist at the moment but I hope to start painting some dreadnoughts when I get the chance too. We'll see, I guess!

See you from the amazing micro-verse!

Sunday, 9 September 2012

Preparation... another Sunday post.

This week has been one of preparation. I have been tinkering away on my cyclist sculpt (which should have been finished by now) and working to complete the conversion of all of the Tengu Models greys into Visitors. Well, the cyclist still hasn't been finished but all of the Greys have been converted and there is an additional bonus... can you spot it?:

Click the pic!

Not only did I manage to convert and assemble the second dreadnought and undercoat everything... but I also managed to finish off the five painted Visitors by basing them:

Click the Pic!

You won't see it but the blue dreadnought has had his legs properly base-coated but I need to finish the rest before the wash stage starts.

So... I now have 20 Visitors, 8 dreadnoughts a walker and a grav platform. I have been productive on E-Bay with a further dreadnought on the way along with two further grav platforms. I am also bidding on something else and have bought a further 20 Greys from Tengu.

The plan is to use the grav platforms for some leaders, use the new greys as honour guards and the remaining greys will be standard Visitors. Eventually, I want five Visitors for every walker/dreadnought and each leader base will have a leader and four guards.

I have been thinking about how the Visitors will operate on the battlefield and this is what I came up with:

Invasion of the Visitors.

• When the Visitors decide to invade, their first course of action is to launch the gate meteors.
• Each gate meteor is a ball of rock that houses a teleport gate safely within it.
• Each of these gate meteors has a psychic conduit that links it to the control ships of the Visitors.
• When the meteor is launched it will enter the atmosphere and plummet to earth and once it has landed, it will remain dormant until a psychic command is given to activate it.
• The psychic conduit within each meteor enables the Visitors to map the position of each one that has survived.
• Once activated, a teleportation gate opens that enables the Visitors to travel to the surface. Initially, the gates are one way but the visitors can switch them if they need to return to their ships.
• Each gate has the capacity to allow vehicle sized travellers to pass through them due to a broad focus teleportation beam.
• Initially, the walkers will arrive to pave the way for the Visitors to enter the battlefield.
• Only after the Visitors have made sure that the landing zones are safe will the leaders arrive with their honour guards. The leaders travel on hover chariots/thrones.
• Each Visitor is psychically shielded and is able to manipulate psychic energy to either move objects or project waves of force. They provide support to and are supported by the walkers.

In game terms, I would suggest that a number of dice (3d6) are rolled broadly across the table before the game starts and where the dice settles is where a gate meteor will arrive. Depending on what the number on the dice is and where it lands would depend on how successful the landing had been.

• If the dice lands in or on a terrain feature the meteor is destroyed.
• If the dice result is a 1 then the meteor is also destroyed.
• If the dice result is a 2, 3 or 4 then the meteor has deviated 2d6” inches in a random direction.
• Any deviation that results in a meteor landing in or on a terrain feature will destroy the meteor.
• If the dice result is a 5 or 6 then the meteor is safe and does not deviate. A few notes on using gate meteors.
• Each active gate meteor on the table is able to teleport one unit each turn.
• Each unit must be placed within 6” of the gate meteor on arrival.
• Only Visitors and their equipment may use the gates (and any captives that they happen to have in their possession).
• If a Visitor unit returns to within 6” of a gate meteor, it can choose to leave the battlefield but may not return.
• Each turn after the Visitors arrive a further 1d6 extra dice can be rolled and treated just like the ones rolled before the game starts. This is not compulsory but will add tension to the game.
• You may choose to use whichever gate is available but it is not compulsory to use them all.
• Once the first Visitor unit has arrived on the tabletop, the enemy will have worked out that they are under attack and will also realise that the meteorites are gates. If there is an enemy unit within line of sight of any gate meteor that has been used then the whole enemy army will be able to attack the gates. Gate meteors will have a toughness characteristic that, once beaten, will render the gate destroyed.

The gate meteors provide an excellent way of limiting the arrival of Visitors and also provide a hugely random deployment that will provide a fair amount of tension to both players. Do you roll the dice in a small area or do you go for a wide dispersal at the risk of your gates being destroyed by landing in terrain? Will the dice be kind or will the game finish before it begins?

 Comments are welcome.

Finally, Henry has some lovely new neck-wear:

It seems that the Visitors obsession is here to stay for a little while.

See you from the Mother Ship!

Piccy, piccy.

I took some better pix of my Visitors:

And while I was taking pix and uploading them, Henry came to investigate the computer:

And earlier... I dyed my daughter's hair again...

I was supposed to get some sculpting done but instead I watched a bit of Dog the Bounty Hunter and Southpark instead... sometimes, the best laid plans are doomed to fail.  It makes you feel so insignificant...
