Thursday...Epiphany!

It has been a very long time coming but Inso has finally finished painting his heavy weapon squad for his Mechanised Grymn:

While he was there, he also finished the other spare Grymn that he started a while ago:

UPDATE...Image lost in time and space!

Inso says that he plans to paint a few more just to make a 'remnant' squad for one of his platoons but he hasn't decided how many or when he will paint them.

Once the remnants are done...that will be it for the army! Well...the other Drop Trooper squad may still be for this army but the Drop Troops are a slightly different paint scheme so don't necessarily have to be attached to any specific army.

I suppose it is one of those 'we'll see' things...

...what I am sure of is that he is chuffed to have finished this squad that has been sitting unpainted for SO LONG!!!

What will come next? Who knows?

Catch you later.

A few minor updates...

I've not heard a lot from Inso lately but he did manage to send me a few pix of his latest work. Here is the final member of the Drop Trooper squad, the specialist:

And here he is with all his friends in the completed squad:

As these are going to be used as Storm Troopers with the 'deep strike' capability, Inso says he needs to decide what weapon the specialist is carrying. He reckons that it is probably best suited as a plasma gun (seeing as he already has converted melta guns in his army elsewhere).

Inso also mentioned that he has another identical squad, in black undercoat waiting to be painted.

However, he has decided not to paint them until he has finished the heavy squad that has been sat in the same state, on his painting table since he got back from the Gulf. That said, he has actually started painting them again and has completed the heads! Now all he has to do is paint the boots, gloves, pouches, weapons and base rims...not a lot!!!

Ha! The Grymn are back...

I knew it would happen sooner or later. Inso sent another pic over and it was full of Grymn. It was only a matter of time before he actually painted a squad of Grymn and here it is:

The Grymn make up a Drop Troop squad but it isn't quite complete as Inso still has the special weapon trooper to go. As you can see, the troops have changed slightly from the one posted before, in that the visors have been toned down and the fatigues are a bit more green.

On to the next news...Inso has had a small delivery of Assault Troopers from Copplestone Castings. He now has ten troopers with a few specialists/leaders in the mix and on first inspection they seem to be pretty neat little figures. As far as quality goes, they are fairly well cast but not as sharp as some from other companies. What they lack in sharp detail, they more than make up for with character and lack of mold lines. They have integral metal bases as well...Inso will be sticking the minis to plastic bases when he eventually starts on them.

That's about it for now so I'll catch you later.

It's a bit Grymn today...

Today I have a few pix sent over that can only mean one thing...Inso is thinking about Grymn again!

First up is a montage of a Grymn Drop Trooper (Heavy Infantry/Storm-Trooper). Inso has used base coats and his new 'Devlan Mud' wash on this one to make it dark and business like. He says that the green on his fatigues will be highlighted one stage further and the visor will be toned down a bit but apart from that he's fairly happy with the results. See for yourself:

Next up we have a few pix of Inso's recent tomfoolery. He read a post over at the Forum of Doom and decided to buy five of these:

As you can see from the pic below and above, they are perfectly scaled for Grymn. Inso has yet to decide exactly how much he will convert them but in his own words "they were worth buying just for the cockpit pods". In the future there will be a squadron of five Grymn Fighters flying about. For information purposes, the kits are from Revell and are the pocket Easy Kits. This one is Obi-Wan's Jedi Star-Fighter.

Look at poor Obi-Wan...He seems to have had one too many at the Cantina! I reckon he's just a little bigger than 1/72nd scale.

This is what he came up with when he bought the Arc 170 Pocket Easy Kit:

Well...catch you later!

Bio-Terror...

Today Inso sent over a pic of his 'Bio-Assassin'. It is a conversion of a Games Workshop Gene-Stealer from the Tyranid range:

That is all he sent and apart from adding a layer of paint to one of his Tau, that is all he has to share with us. Hopefully, there will be something else tomorrow...we'll have to wait and see.

The times they are a changing...

Things have been very quiet for Inso recently. He has been doing a bit of spring cleaning and has not only sold off his Cadians and Tyranids but has also sold off his High-Gravity Space Marine army; two of which are shown here:

...UPDATE...Image removed due to High Gravity Marines being sold.

As a result of rooting through his cupboards he also found some tired looking Tau that needed a bit of reviving so off he went to the shops and bought a couple of GW Foundation paints and one of their new washes. This pic shows a really dark miniature that has been coated with a light foundation paint, one that has been washed and then one that has been highlighted with the base coat:

This picture shows the starting colour and the final version of the re-painted miniature:

Apparently, the boots haven't been painted right so they have since been painted to match the fatigues rather than the plates...

...anyway, the purpose of the Tau was to try out the new paints and Inso says that he really recommends the Foundation paints and Washes from Games Workshop.

From the Tau paint-job a more simple scheme for the next Grymn army is being planned...there is no word on colours, style or look so far so we'll have to wait and see what he eventually comes up with.

A Few Tyranids...

Inso sent a few more pix over...they are his painted Tyranids...

...UPDATE...pix have been removed because the Tyranids were sold on.

Sunday update.

There is just a small update today. Inso sent his latest pic over and it is of a Spyglass Miniatures Noblin called Hurk. There are no proper colour schemes for a Noblin so Inso went for a limited Palette, white eyes and coal black skin:

Apart from that, all he would mention was the fact that Pierce Brosnan has all the tonal quality of nails down a blackboard when he sings...(apparently Inso went to see Mama-Mia at the cinema with his family today...it was definitely for Browny points only!).

Saturday and a small amount of news...

Well Inso has been in touch and has said that feedback is good. He has carried out a few minor modifications to the Fubarnii and is much happier with it. The reason the changes were made was because of feedback from the FoD. So here is a pic of the Fubarnii knight with a bit of dark-lining between rider and mount and an additional; layer of highlight on the mount:

Inso thinks the changes are for the better...are they?

He also tells me that he has started work on a Noblin called Hurk from Spyglass Miniatures. He is remaining silent on the paint-scheme at the moment but has mentioned that the Noblin is based and undercoated ready to start.

There is also a tiny bit of news on the conversion front today. A while back, Inso bought a Tyranid starter box from Games Workshop and had a few miniatures left over. The left overs were Gene-Stealers and last night Inso started converting one into something a bit different. Again, he isn't saying too much so I guess we'll just have to wait and see what he comes up with.

Thursday.

I know that there are a few less posts at the moment but that is the nature of life sometimes. I will say that although Inso is dealing with a lot of real-life 'STUFF' at the moment, he is also slowly ticking along with the hobby side of things as well.

As was mentioned in an earlier post, Inso received 10 miniatures (Fubaarni) from a guy called Carcharoth from the Forum of Doom. They were a gift and were extremely well received, I can tell you. Well, on Inso's return he said that they would be the first ones to get his attention and indeed, he assembled one completely and based the other 9 ready for assembly as soon as his painting things were back on the table. While this was going on, he painted the Atom but the drive was still to get at least one of the Fubaarni finished as soon as possible. Well, he's only gone and finished one. He has deliberately gone for very subtle highlighting and a bright colour scheme...so here are a few pix with the ATOM for scale:

As you can see, it is something completely different! There will be a few conversions coming along for these as Inso received two lots of five identical miniatures (5 have shields the other 5 don't). There will be a few rifles and a bunch of equipment added to some of them and others may receive other stuff as well (cloaks, helmet plumes...even whiskers!).

I hope you like him!

A Super Monday.

Well, it seems like Inso has started painting again. Obviously he has had to get the creative juices flowing by painting something completely different...but at least he's started.

Here is a picture of the Grymn's latest biological marvel and his name is 'The Atom':

The miniature is a super-hero from Black Hat miniatures called 'Armourdillo' and he suits the Grymn perfectly due to his diminutive size. He still needs varnish but he's all finished in the painting department.

Who knows what is next?

Friday...

Nothing happened today except for Inso buying some partitioned boxes to try to get some sort of order in his un-painted Grymn collection.

Yesterday the boiler was fitted, today the electrician was in so Inso decided to give miniatures a miss; what with all the comings and goings.

Inso has said that he does have a single Fubaarni cavalry miniature assembled...but the other nine have just been attached to bases without being assembled yet. I suppose it is a start but it doesn't show us very much.

Yawn...is it Thursday Already?

After a couple of days being a zombie whilst enjoying various basic pleasures (tea...with real milk!!!), Inso has at last begun to wake up.

Now, for those of you who are not familiar with the Forum of Doom, Inso is about to start a new journey in a few weeks. Not only has he been promoted but he will be moving to Northern Ireland. As a result, he has a lot of real-life stuff to be getting on with. HOWEVER...this hasn't stopped him thinking about hobby matters.

Since he has returned from the Gulf, Inso has started to sort through the mountain of lead that he acquired from Salute. He has also ordered various bits and pieces since then and done a bit of trading here and there so you can imagine the problems he will have deciding what to do first. As a stop-gap, he has returned his heavy weapon squad to his newly set-up painting area and has put some paint, water and brushes next to them to try to get motivated to paint them.

He has begun to sort out the Grymn horde that he has but due to the new releases of the helmet clad Light-Infantry, Inso's plans have completely changed so he has just grouped a few units together at the moment; with little thought to actually progressing them until the muse takes him.

Today, the boiler men arrived to replace a boiler in his house, so he has just begun assembling a few Fubaarni. Assembly work isn't too involved so it means that he can keep an ear out for what is going on with the boiler.

Well...that's the news for now. There may well be more very soon but things will happen when they happen at the moment.

Take care.
